Jovany Chavira is the owner of SLP Customs and Collision Repair, an auto body repair shop in Arlington, Texas. As a teenager, he dreamed of becoming financially independent through entrepreneurship.
An opportunity presented itself when he was 20 years old, as COVID-19 began negatively impacting businesses. Jpvany purchased a body shop that went out of business due to the pandemic, and he started nearly from scratch with no customers and zero employees. Jovany did, however, have a building with tools and equipment. He was determined to build a successful and profitable business, so he worked Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every week.
Jovany took entrepreneurship courses at the Tarrant County Community College (TCC) to gain knowledge of business management skills. He also started working with the Tarrant County Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in 2022. After receiving advice from the SBDC, the business eliminated unnecessary expenses, crafted a new marketing strategy, and used social media tools such as Instagram to promote the business. The business now has four employees and posted $447,600 in sales in 2022 compared to $18,109 in 2020. Jovany was also able to expand his shop from 3,000 square feet to 5,400 square feet.
Today, the shop offers vehicle pick-up and drop-off services, loaner cars, and provides insurance assistance for their clients. They strive to leave their client's vehicles looking equivalent to how they came out of the dealership, which they believe helps build customer satisfaction. One of Jovany's goals is to build JCMP into the biggest mega collision center in the city.
