Event description

Brink Pitch Prep for SDAC is a weekly series running January to February 2025 to help entrepreneurs prepare to compete in the San Diego Angel Conference (SDAC). SDAC, hosted by San Diego State University (SDSU), is a 3-month series of events (March to May 2025) that seeks to fund founders by activating angel investors who raise funds to invest in the winner of the pitch competition. Through a series of evaluations and pitch events, investors arrive at 6 finalists who pitch at the SDAC finale on June 5, 2025. The SDAC application deadline is February 27, 2025.

Event Format

Brink Pitch Prep for SDAC prepares founders to pitch by reviewing slide deck topics, slide design, and Gust, the SDAC platform used for company evaluation. Attendees may attend the entire series or single events, however attendance is not required to apply for SDAC.

Market Opportunity & Team

In a pitch deck, the "market opportunity" slide is crucial as it demonstrates the potential size, growth rate, and overall attractiveness of the market your product or service is entering, essentially showing investors there's a large enough market to make a great return. By including a well-researched market size slide in your pitch deck, you’ll demonstrate your deep understanding of market, customer segments, and priorities. Hear from Amy Cuneo about how to use market research to determine market size and how best to present market opportunity to investors.

The “team” slide demonstrates the composition of you founding team, showcasing key members, relevant experience, and expertise. It strengthens your pitch and convinces investors that you have the right people with the necessary skills and background to execute the business plan and achieve success. Investors don't just invest in ideas; they invest in people. They want to see strong founder-market fit, experience in the space, and dedication to learning and executing. Maisha Cobb will address what investors are looking for when evaluating a founding team and how to present in a pitch deck.

What to expect:

In this session you’ll learn how to:

  • Define your ideal customer profile
  • Break down the broader market into relevant segments
  • Calculate TAM, SAM, SOM
  • Use the team slide to build credibility
