MONTPELIER, Vt. – Caledonia Spirits broke ground on a new 26,000 square-foot distillery Aug. 9 on Barre St. in Montpelier.
It is a Small Business Administration 504 project slated to bring 40 jobs to the rural area and will increase production to more than 200,000 cases a year.
A 504 loan provides long-term, fixed-rate financing for purchasing and renovating land, buildings and equipment.
Earlier this year the SBA made a substantial change to the 504 Loan Program making new 504 loans available with a 25-year maturity.
The new distillery will be on a 4-acre site with Winooski River frontage and views of Vermont’s mountains.
