Success with SBA Programs for Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Business

For 22 years, Mitch worked for the VA Medical Centers where he realized there was an opportunity for general contractors with experience in government operations and contracting who could provide competitive pricing and finish projects in a timely manner. However, it was his attendance at a “Boots to Business” seminar (a program through SBA Resource Partner: Veteran’s Business Outreach Center) that gave him the tools and knowledge necessary to take the next steps.

Mitch sought out help from multiple SBA resource partners including the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center and the Arkansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center, registered as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business, and took advantage of the SBA’s guaranteed capital programs to help his business grow and succeed.

Mitch Goodwin has this to say about his success: “That’s what pushed me over the edge. I was teeter-tottering about starting a business, and after I went to the Boots to Business seminar, I met a lot of SBA folks, and they were a wealth of information for us. I have recommended that to everyone. You need to contact your local SBA office and go to one of these seminars because it’s an eye opener and they gave me so many resources.”

Five years later, Goodwin Facilities Solutions has approximately $12 million of contract work scheduled.
