Drop Zone Distilling

Two professionals in their distillery

In Knoxville, Tennessee, where the age-old traditions of distilling spirits have permeated through generations, lies a distillery that not only evokes the nostalgia of authentic moonshine but also elegantly intertwines it with a steadfast commitment to quality and community service. Drop Zone Distilling, under the stewardship of Rod Parton, embodies a legacy of spirit-making that has meandered through four generations, finding its modern expression in a venture that seamlessly blends tradition, authenticity, and community service.

Drop Zone's journey into legal distilling is deeply entwined with the rich narrative of the Parton family. With a history that can trace its initial droplets of legacy moonshine back to Rod’s great-granddad, the distillery prides itself on preserving a recipe that has withstood the test of time and modern commercialization. Rod's granddad, carrying the torch forward post World War Two, established a distinctive footprint in rum and moonshine creation. His father took a slightly divergent path, becoming a bootlegger and etching a route from Cobb County to Chattanooga and Nashville in an indomitable '56 Chevy.

Fueled by a desire to reintroduce the authentic flavor of moonshine to a market inundated with commercial alternatives, Rod, inspired by his son, transitioned the clandestine family operation into a legal distillery two years ago. Drop Zone stands as a testament to what real moonshine should taste like, holding the beacon for an undiluted and genuine spirit-making process.

The name 'Drop Zone' is not merely a title but a heartfelt nod to the military background that permeates through the Parton family lineage. Emanating resonance from their experiences - "From US paratrooper to the Tennessee State trooper to the man behind the Mason jar” - Drop Zone embodies a spirit of authenticity and transparency, refraining from using grain neutral spirits and ensuring that every ounce of their product is crafted and stored with traditional meticulousness.
