Join the United States Patent and Trademark Office as they share this information from the Eastern Regional Outreach Office. 

How does one protect an app or software in today’s environment? What form or forms of intellectual property are best used to protect the various aspect of an app or software and how to their work together to offer coverage? This program will focus primarily on the use of utility patents to protect an app or software while also addressing other forms of intellectual property that are pertinent and best practices when pursuing a utility patent. 

Presenter Edgar Guerra-Erazo serves as a Primary Patent Examiner and Technical Trainer in the USPTO’s Technology Center 2600. In this work, he examines patent applications drawn to artificial intelligence applications including computational linguistics, speech processing and audio compression. Mr. Guerra-Erazo is the recipient of a U.S. Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award in FY2014, and Exceptional Career Award in FY2019. He has both a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering from George Mason University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
