SAN ANTONIO – Veterans learn valuable skills and traits that they carry with them long after their service to our country. Many of these traits such as leadership skills, strategic thinking and proficiency in assessing risks directly correlate to skilled needs as an entrepreneur.
The Boots to Business program provides entrepreneurial education and training to transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses (including members of the National Guard and Reserve) via the U.S. Department of Defense’s Transition Assistance Program.
The next training will be held on February 11-12, 2020 from 8 am to 4:00 pm at Laughlin Air Force Base.
“Service members have such a wide diversity of talents and experiences, as do their spouses,” said Anthony Ruiz, SBA San Antonio District Director. “This program can help translate that into their entrepreneurial undertakings.
The classroom-based course provides participants an overview of business ownership, outlining the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources. The training also includes a feasibility analysis practical exercise and an instructor-led, eight-week online course that provides participants the knowledge needed to create an actionable business plan.
The program is administered as a collaborative effort between SBA district offices and resource partners, which include Veterans Business Outreach Centers, Women’s Business Centers, SCORE, America’s Small Business Development Centers and grant partners.
