COLUMBUS – The U.S. Small Business Administration has appointed Robert Scott, as the regional administrator for SBA’s Great Lakes Region (Region V), which covers Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. He joins five other regional administrators announced today by the federal agency. As regional administrator, Scott will oversee SBA operations, seven district offices and federal small business assistance programs throughout the six-state region, and will be based out of the SBA’s district office in Columbus, Ohio.

“I am very pleased that we now have six new Regional Administrators in place that can help support me and the President in serving as a voice and go-to resource for our nation’s 30 million small businesses. I will rely on them heavily as we move forward in 2018 and beyond and look forward to working closely with each one of them,” SBA Administrator Linda McMahon said.

Scott is an attorney and elected official who most recently ran his own consulting firm, practiced law at Oldham & Deitering in Clayton, Ohio, and served as the vice mayor and still as city councilman in Kettering, Ohio. He has worked in the Ohio House of Representatives as a legislative aide and on several major political campaigns in Ohio, including serving as the state director for Donald J. Trump for President. Additionally, Scott wrote for the Dayton Daily News, Dayton City Paper and was a syndicated columnist for Brown Newspapers, Inc.

“Small businesses provide great opportunity for all citizens in this country and I am thrilled to help support their development and growth in the Midwest as a regional administrator for the SBA,” Scott said. “Our economy is at one of its strongest points in the last two decades and I look forward to advocating for those living the American dream as they create two out of every three jobs and help Main Streets prosper.”

A Kettering, Ohio, native, Scott graduated from Wright State University and received an honors juris doctorate degree from the University of Dayton’s School of Law. He is a member of the Dayton Masonic Lodge, Ohio State Bar Association and Kettering Rotary Club. Scott received a “Forty under 40” award from the American Association of Political Consultants in 2016 and the Dayton Business Journal named him one of the city’s notable “Forty under 40” professionals in 2015.
