The Emerging Leaders Initiative is an intensive executive-level training initiative for high-potential small business owners in the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Sometimes referred to as a mini-MBA, the Emerging Leaders curriculum gives small business owners an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience through the combination of an academically developed curriculum, practical tips based on “real life” business experience and advice from business leaders that can be readily applied. It will focus on topics such as organization management, growth strategies, finances, market development, and strategic planning. Since its inception in 2008, the Emerging Leaders program has identified business owners across the country with a high potential for growth in underserved markets and provided them with the training, networking, resources and motivation required to expand operations and create jobs. To date, more than half of participating businesses have seen an increase in revenue and nearly two-thirds have created new jobs. The first Baltimore-area Emerging Leaders class of 2018 starts in late March (exact date to be determined). Classes meet once every two weeks for the course is approximately 100 hours, over a 6-month time frame. Participation in Emerging Leaders is free to qualifying business owners. Criteria for participation include having a business location within the Baltimore Metropolitan area, having been in business for a minimum of three years and seeing $400,000 or more in gross revenues.
