NC 14912 - Over $100 Million in SBA Disaster Aid Approved in NC for Hurricane Matthew; Deadline for Working Capital Loans Approaching

ATLANTA –The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved over $100 million in low-interest disaster loans for businesses and residents in North Carolina affected by Hurricane Matthew on Oct. 4 - 24, 2016.  Although the deadline to apply for physical damage was January 23, small businesses and nonprofits have until July 10, 2017 to apply for economic injury (working capital) loans.

“Currently, 2,669 disaster loans have been approved in the amount of $100,117,600 for affected survivors,” said Frank Skaggs, director of SBA’s Field Operations Center East in Atlanta.  “We are pleased to get these loans approved so businesses and residents in the disaster area can start to rebuild and resume their normal lives. I encourage all small businesses and eligible nonprofit organizations who suffered economic injury to submit an SBA disaster loan application before the economic injury disaster loan application deadline.”

Small businesses and most private nonprofit organizations in the following adjacent counties and independent cities are eligible to apply for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans : Alamance, Anson, Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chatham, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Durham, Edgecombe, Franklin, Gates, Granville, Greene, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Martin, Moore, Montgomery, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Orange, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland, Stanly, Tyrrell, Union, Wake, Warren, Washington, Wayne and Wilson, in North Carolina ; Chesterfield, Dillon, Horry and Marlboro in South Carolina; Brunswick, Chesapeake City, Greensville, Southampton, Suffolk City and Virginia Beach City in Virginia .

SBA disaster loans are available to businesses of all sizes and most private nonprofit to cover uninsured losses from the disaster.  Interest rates are as low as 4 percent for businesses and 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations.  Loan terms can be up to 30 years.

Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via the SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela .

The loan application process can be obtained by calling the SBA Customer Service Center at 800-659-2955 (800-877-8339 for the deaf and hard-of-hearing) or by sending an email to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov .

The filing deadline to return applications for economic injury applications is July 10, 2017 .
