FL 14671 - SBA to Close Business Recovery Center in Florida; Help is Still Available

ATLANTA – The U. S. Small Business Administration announced it is closing its Business Recovery Center in Stuart, Florida on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. This center is serving small businesses, small agricultural cooperatives, small businesses engaged in aquaculture or private nonprofit organizations in Florida having suffered financial losses as the result of the algae bloom, excessive rain, flooding and the water released from Lake Okeechobee that occurred on Jan. 3-29, 2016.

Effected small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the declared Florida counties can still apply for an Economic Injury Disaster Loan for disaster related working capital needs by completing an Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure website at: https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela .

These loans may be used to pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, and other bills that could have been paid had the disaster not occurred.  The loans are not intended to replace lost sales or profits. The loan amount can be up to $2 million with interest rates of 2.625 percent for private nonprofit organizations and 4 percent for small businesses, with terms up to 30 years.

Business counselors with SBA and its partners are available at other locations to prepare financial statements and help complete the loan application. To find the location of the nearest SBA resource visit: https://www.sba.gov/tools/local-assistance .
