U.S. Small Business Leaders Embark on Nationwide Tour to Highlight National Small Business Week

WASHINGTON – Maria Contreras-Sweet, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and Douglas Kramer, the Deputy Administrator of the SBA, will be traveling across the country this week to highlight small businesses during National Small Business Week (NSBW). 

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation designating a National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. Occurring the first week of May every year, the week is a time when communities celebrate their local small business owners as well as the 28 million small businesses across the country

Contreras-Sweet, who is a member of President Obama’s cabinet, will kick off NSBW in Washington, D.C. on May 1-2.  During this two-day event winners from 54 states and territories will be recognized for recognition as their state’s small business person of the year, and one of them will be named National Small Business Person of the Year. 

Additionally, winners will be recognized in 17 different categories ranging from exporting, outreach, contracting, lending, disaster recovery to manufacturing and research and development.  She will then travel to host and participate in events in New York, Denver, Phoenix, San Jose, and Oakland.

Kramer will also be participating in the Sunday and Monday events in Washington, before traveling to events in Atlanta, Chicago, and Lansing.
